Dr. Rima Karami
Director, Principal Investigator of TAMAM Project
Professor Rima is an Associate professor of Educational
Administration, Policy and Leadership in the Department of Education and the
program advisor for the Educational Management and Leadership program. She
served as the Chairperson of the Department of Education at the American
University of Beirut.
She holds a Bachelor in Science in Chemistry, Diploma for
teaching science at the secondary level, and Master of Arts in Science
Education from the American University of Beirut (AUB). She earned her
doctorate in Educational leadership from Portland State University with a
specialty in [K-12] Educational Administration and Supervision and a focus on
school principalship, organizational change and educational policy.
She is the Principal investigator and director of TAMAM
project to initiate and research school-based reform. She led reform in 72
schools in nine countries since its initiation. Schools around Lebanon, Jordan,
and Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman, Sudan, Palestine, Qatar and Kuwait. TAMAM is
funded through a grant by the Arab thought Foundation and received additional
funding from the LORE Foundation, the Taawon Association, and Al Maymouna organization
and was one of the recipients of the 2021-2022 UNESCO-HAMDAN prize for teacher
development. Dr. Karami currently serves as the Chairperson of the executive
committee of Shamaa (Arab Information Educational Network); a member of the
Board of Trustees of the Welfare Association in Lebanon and the Chairperson of
the Academic Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Ahliyyah School in
Beirut, and as the coordinator for the Education sector in Khaddit Beirut .
In addition, Dr. Karami has designed and conducted many
professional development activities for school principals and supervisors, both
independently and as part of large-scale reform initiatives. She has published
in international and local journals on the principal role, approaches to
professional development, program and organizational level evaluation, and
models for school-based reform
